SMART Goal #3

This week my goal is to find a free alternative to Adobe Illustrator, as well as begin making sure that I have my sources.

Reflection

This week I spent a lot of searching for sources as well as possible programs to use in place of Adobe Illustrator (for making infographics). I found about five or so alternative programs, so this weekend I plan to download the best one I’ve found so far, Inkscape, and play around with it to see how it works. If I’m unhappy with it or am simply unable to use it for what I want to do, I still have a good chunk of backup options, so I’m not too worried. I found a lot of sources that include design tips for infographics. My only concern is that they’re too similar in the sense that many are basically saying the same things and that I’m not really learning anything extra by having these multiple sources. My hope is that I can find more articles or sources specifically about design for books or yearbooks. With that, there will likely be different information than what I’ve already found, and I can combine both types of sources to learn best. I also might try looking up some videos on youtube since there is usually a pretty large variety of tutorials for various design software, so within that I can likely find something relating to page or infographic design. The only potential issue with that is that I can’t go on youtube at school, so I’ll just have to do that at home.

This year I will be exploring the power, purpose, and process of creating infographics. With eye-catching graphic design, infographics are an increasingly popular form for presenting information to the public in modern-day media.
